The Story of Us

Once upon a time, he was a skater boi. She said see ya later boi.

... just kidding hehe

It was early in the year of 2020 before the world went berserk (who knew 1. that was an actual word and 2. that's how you spelled it). A young man named Kemper was building a company and needed beautiful, talented, athletic models for a photoshoot. So naturally, he reached out to me. (only jokes)

He knew who I was because his sister, Rachel and I did gymnastics together as kids and as a fellow fitness enthusiast, he thought I would be a good fit for the job. On February 29, 2020, we met at his previous gym, Box HIIT, where he was a group fitness instructor, personal trainer and gym go-er for the first of many NWSE photoshoots. For Kemper, it was love at first sight... kind of. At least love at first spending a 10-hr day shooting together. He went home that night and told his mom he knew then. Meanwhile, I was in a committed relationship at the time and didn't think twice about the meeting other than I found a company I believed in and wanted to continue to be a part of.

The next month the pandemic hit and life got crazy. I moved to Lake Mary and Kemper and I became good friends. We started what is now BK Fitness by creating our first At Home Workout Guide together and continued doing NWSE photoshoots, platonically, of course. A few months later, he became a member of CrossFit Exalted and convinced me and my friend Arielle to come check out the gym. I had always wanted to try CrossFit but was always way too nervous to try it out by myself so with Kemper being a member and Arielle willing to workout with me, I took the leap and gave it a go. Needless to say, I was immediately hooked. The community was supportive, engaging and fun. There was friendly competition and immediate connection with the rest of the gym. During a year of confusion and chaos, Exalted became a safe home with like-minded individuals who pushed me, challenged me and ultimately, changed me.

There are a lot of gaps to fill in but ultimately, this is where our story began.

2020 was a rollercoaster. To state the obvious, my world was turned upside down--I lost my job, went through a breakup and moved out of my apartment. Those trials brought me some really beautiful, unexpected things, though.

Kemper finally mustered up the courage and proclaimed his love for me, which had been building for 7 months, in the early Fall. I was reluctant at first, but once I allowed myself the freedom and let my guard down, I fell in love with Kemper easily and fast. He swept me off my feet with his charm, humor and chivalry. I had no chance. He is kind, loyal and extremely motivated and everything I had been praying for in a life partner.

If I've learned anything from this past year, it's that life is full of the unexpected. You can make strategic, detailed plans for your life but God's plan for you is always bigger and better than anything you could ever imagine. Kemper truly is an answered prayer. I'm extremely thankful for all the happenings of the past year but I know this is only the beginning--our beginning.
